SERVICES

about

md fire solutions is owned and run by Andy Laws and Shaun Mace. Between us we have over 60 years experience in the building trade.  Whilst continuing in the building trade we decided to enhance these works to include the passive fire protection specialisation.  We are therefore able to carry out any building works that are required alongside any fire works.

We are members of NAPFIS (Nationwide Association of Passive Fire Installers and Specifiers). This governing body oversees standards within the industry and gives you, the customer, peace of mind knowing that your work is being carried out by a fully qualified person.    Equally important is that on completion of the works you will be issued with a Certificate of Compliance that will satisfy the local Fire Authority and Building Control Officer.

You can be rest assured that we have the knowledge, skills and a huge array of products at our disposal to help you and your business meet stringent modern Fire Safety Standards. We are fully trained and understand all the products being used and work to an industry high standard.

We understand that if you are in business you need to continue to operate whilst works are carried out and we do our utmost to ensure that your business is disrupted as little as possible. We will work with you and your business needs.

fire compartmentation

Fire compartmentation is an important element of ‘passive fire protection’ and is achieved by dividing the building into ‘fire compartments’ through the use of fire doors, floors and walls of fire-resisting construction, cavity barriers within roof voids and fire stopping to services that penetrate through these dividing elements. Compartmentation prevents the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases, subdivides buildings into manageable areas of risk and provides a means of escape enabling time for the occupants to safely evacuate the building.

installations & upgrades

Fire doors are crucial to the fabric of a building in providing protection for escape routes and protecting the rest of the building from the spread of fire and smoke. In this function they help to save lives and reduce damage to the rest of the building by slowing down the spread of fire and smoke. New fire doors come in a huge range of designs but in a period building it may be preferable to upgrade existing doors rather than replace them. If an upgrade is not possible tailor made and bespoke doors can be made.

fire stopping installations

Penetration seals are vital in upholding compartmentation to prevent the spread of fire within a building. Penetration systems are a primary requirement of the fire safety design in all buildings. The service penetration systems we provide and install are cost-effective and prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases through any gaps in the walls of a structure. These sealing systems include Intumescent mastics, Ablative Batts, fire barriers and fire compounds.

projects

md fire solutions carry out passive fire protection services in a wide range of buildings, including public buildings, libraries, retail outlets, care homes, hospitals, pubs, hotels as well as domestic dwellings.

The company recently completed a large contract at The Forum in Norwich carrying out essential fire stopping in service risers.

Other projects we have been involved in include the major restoration of Earlham Hall, part of the UEA School of Law, which is a Grade II listed building. Our work included the upgrading of existing period doors to current fire standards whilst keeping their historic look as well as the installation of fire curtains and barriers into historic walls, wooden panelling and floors.

We have been involved in numerous upgrades of care homes in East Anglia where they have had to comply with Fire Risk Assessments to implement measures to meet up to date fire legislation.
